Oral hygiene, care for your mouth

Oral hygiene
is the cornerstone to all dental treatments, and is essential for any other treatment to be successful. Oral hygiene is not only good for your mouth but also for the rest of your body.   Surprisingly research has shown that there is a link between poor oral hygiene and chronic heart disease, diabetes, low birth weight babies, and even premature babies. The weight of evidence seems to suggest that cleaning your teeth regularly and properly will improve your overall health.

The best time to brush is after breakfast and before you go to bed. Flossing or interdental cleaning can be carried out at anytime of the day. If your gums bleed when you brush or floss this signifies that plaque and bacteria are still present in the mouth and more cleaning is necessary. Bleeding gums are the first signs of active gum disease which if untreated can lead to tooth loss.

The more you clean, the less your gums will bleed.

Remember your oral health is your responsibility every day of your life.

A good oral hygiene regime involves 3 aspects:-
  1. Brushing your teeth and gums twice a day for at least two minutes each brushing session.
  2. Cleaning the spaces in between your teeth every day with either floss or interdental brushes.
  3. Brushing your tongue daily.
