What are the advantages of white fillings?
The most obvious advantage is aesthetic - the filling can be matched to the shade of your teeth so it blends in with the rest of your teeth and looks natural. We now have complex filling materials which have multiple colouring facets to match the shade perfectly. But aside from this, there are several other benefits:
- A composite (white) filling bonds to the tooth and integrates with it. This makes the tooth stronger.
- Due to the nature of the composite material, your white filling will be less sensitive to extremes of temperature.
- White fillings are more fluid which means that the hole to be filled can be smaller. Thus less of the original tooth is removed, making the tooth less susceptible to further damage.
