With proper care, implant-supported dentures can last for many years, even a lifetime. However, it is important to maintain good oral hygiene and see your dentist for regular checkups to ensure the longevity of your dentures.
You may be a candidate for implant-supported dentures if you are missing most or all of your teeth, have enough bone in your jaw to support dental implants, are in good overall health and are committed to maintaining good oral hygiene. Talk to us to find out more!
You care for implant-supported dentures in much the same way as you care for your natural teeth. Brush your dentures twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a non-abrasive toothpaste. You should also floss daily to remove plaque and food particles from around the implants.
The process for receiving implant-supported dentures involves several steps. First, a consultation with your dentist will determine if you are suitable. Next, dental implants are surgically placed into the jawbone, followed by a healing period of several months to allow the implants to fuse with the bone. After healing, abutments (small posts that connect the implants to the dentures) are attached. Finally, the dentures are secured to the abutments.
