How does Invisalign Teeth Straightening work?

Jun09

The state-of-the-art Invisalign® Clear Braces from California are virtually invisible and are fully removable – allowing you to continue doing all the things you normally would, from brushing and flossing, to eating whatever you like. They are comfortable, and offer a highly effective way of straightening your smile within as little as six months.

Invisalign takes a modern approach to straightening teeth, using a custom made series of aligners created for you, and only you. These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that you simply wear over your teeth. Wearing the aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements your dentist plans out for you. There are no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten. You simply pop in a new set of aligners approximately every two weeks, until your treatment is complete and you achieve the confident smile that you’ve always wanted. The best part of the whole process is that most people won’t even know you are straightening your teeth!

Take a look at the simple steps you and your Invisalign dentist will take on your journey to a brand new smile:

Step One: Initial (Free) Invisalign Consultation

No matter what your age or your dental situation, all new patients are welcome at Hallcross Dental Practice for a Free Invisalign Consultation with our Treatment Co-ordinator. During this consultation, we will take the time (over a relaxed cup of tea or coffee) to understand your aspirations for your new smile, to clearly explain what Invisalign treatment involves and how it could work you, and to discuss any questions, queries or concerns you may have.

Step Two: Clinical Assessment

Then if you are interested in proceeding with treatment – your next step would be to see our Invisalign Dentist Dr Jayesh Patel for a Clinical Assessment. During this appointment, Jay will discuss the technical aspects of treatment with you as well as take X-rays of your mouth so that checks can be made to ensure you are suitable for treatment. During this appointment, Jay will also take impressions of your teeth that will be sent off to the specialist Invisalign Laboratories to be digitised – so you will be able to see a 3D computerised treatment plan that allows you to have a say in your smile design.

Step Three: Treatment Plan

During this appointment, you’ll be able to see a virtual representation of your teeth before, during and after completion of your Invisalign treatment. A personalised Treatment Plan outlining proposed timeframes and costs will then be developed for you.

Step Four: Bespoke Clear Aligners

Once you have gone through and agreed all aspects of your treatment plan with Jay, your custom made aligners will be produced specifically to the contours of your mouth and teeth. You will be provided with a new pair of aligners to wear for weeks – before switching to the next aligner in the series (as mapped out in your treatment plan) to gently and gradually move your teeth into place.

Step Five: Treatment Process

You will need to wear your new clear aligners throughout the day and night as you would a metal brace, but with the added benefit that they can be removed for eating, brushing or flossing. Depending on your individual requirements, a full treatment will consist of between 18-36 clear aligners for both the upper a lower jaw, with treatment taking approximately 6-18 months.

Every 4-6 weeks you will have a check-up with Jay to monitor your progress and to receive your next stage of aligners. During your treatment you will see a gradual movement of your teeth, eventually resulting in an even and healthy smile.
