If your child has crooked or crowded teeth or an overbite, underbite, or crossbite, they could benefit from orthodontics. If they have problems with their jaw, speech difficulties, and mouth breathing problems, then orthodontics could also be useful. Speak with us about any concerns, and we can advise you of the best course of action.
Some of the benefits of early orthodontic treatment for children include:
We offer a multitude of orthodontic systems here at Hallcross from Invisalign treatment to metal, Iconix or ceramic fixed braces. Iconix & ceramic fixed braces are fairly discreet and offer predictable results as do traditional fixed braces. Invisalign treatment offers a virtually invisible style aligner for a far more discreet look.
A “routine, straightforward” course of orthodontic treatment typically takes between 12-18 months. More complex cases can take up to 24-36 months roughly. You will be advised of a rough treatment time when you see our orthodontists for assessment.
Initially, there may be some discomfort or soreness, but it typically subsides after a few days. Your child’s eating habits may need to be adjusted to avoid certain foods that could damage braces. Regular brushing and interdental cleaning become even more critical to maintain oral hygiene. Speech may be affected temporarily, but most children adapt quickly.
Activities like playing musical instruments or sports may require some adjustments but are still very much possible.
Regular orthodontic appointments for adjustments are necessary, typically every 8-12 weeks. Overall, with proper care and adjustment, braces should not significantly impede your child’s daily activities or lifestyle.
You can expect some tenderness and aching as the teeth start to move but this usually wears off in the first few days after fitting and adjusting. Fitting the brace is usually not painful, and no anaesthetic is required.
The cost of children’s orthodontics does vary depending on what needs to be corrected. We can discuss this in your initial consultation.
